Important Information
Please note the following important information.
- When logging in to https://boss.cs.bham.ac.uk/BOSSonline/student/ or via the java client you need to use the University ID number - without a leading 0 (if there is one in your ID Number) - and the password is specific to the BOSS system - to get a new one click on the 'New user of forgot password' link.
- Warwick University wrote the BOSS system. In the manual and other documentation there are links to the Warwick BOSS installation - you WILL NOT be able to login to the Warwick BOSS site.
- If the module has been setup to allow students to resubmit, you will need to resubmit the WHOLE assessment. If you attempt to submit a single updated file it will overwrite the rest of the submitted work.
- If you attempt to submit work, and receive a message that you are not registered for that module, you should submit anyway. Sometimes the data for module registrations takes time to update. The submission process should still work.
Overview
We use the BOSS Online Submission
System for Coursework Submission in the
School of Computer Science.
BOSS was developed by the Department of
Computer Science at the University of Warwick.
Status
- The BOSS database has been populated with modules, staff and student IDs and
student module registrations.
- Staff are encouraged to test the system out including dry runs of setting
assessments and the uploading-downloading-marking cycle in preparation for the
start of the academic year and mail any queries to
boss@cs.bham.ac.uk.
- Powerpoint presentation of talk given on 7th September 2005.
Getting Started
It is recommended that you familiarise yourself with BOSS concepts and
terminology by reading the information on the
BOSS homepage at Warwick first and then the staff and student manuals.
Once you have obtained your password and logged in to BOSS I suggest you go to the Help contents and
Start reading there.
Remember - links within the documentation at the Warwick site may point to login servers at Warwick - you will not be able to login to those machines - you have to use the Birmingham hosted BOSS system.
Note: Ignore the links to "BOSS web page" in the staff and student manuals as they point to
the Warwick web client.
